Born 1984, Chur, Switzerland. Lives in Zurich, Switzerland.

The paintings of Thomas Sauter question the legacy of gesture and form, viewing the picture plane as a skin on which an image thinly sits unsettled.  Not restrained to canvases, his paintings float in air, cover walls and objects and reveal an interest in the digital and its impossible ability to project the flat with depth. Deeply involved with a painterly process the works relish in a paradoxical desire to energize outward from their supports.

His recent solo shows include 'If you're looking for a straight line go to the sea' at Galerie Maria Bernheim, Zurich (2017), 'Thomas Sauter' at Pavillon der Ruhigen, Zurich (2016) and '0° Celsius' at Val Masino (2016).
