In this new body of work, Anderson pursues his long standing interest for embroideries and explores motifs of unrealized projects, ideals and visions. Recurrence (study the old, but create the new) represents a motif taken from an unfinished work by Varvara Stepanova, major figure of the Russian avant-garde. Its abstraction comes from Stepanova’s work in design and posters. The work is realized by Anderson as an extremely meticulous embroidery, with over 16km of thread, it becomes the most finished and polished version of itself. Anderson takes the unfulfilled possibilities of the Russian Avant-garde and the Russian revolution and abstracts them into a shape of continued desire.
